Zach Galifianakis Debuts Major Weight Loss

It seems this “Wolfpack of One” is no longer eating for two . or three. Zach Galifianakis reemerged for his first public appearance in about a year looking significantly slimmer.

The Hangover star– who’s thought to have lost about 50 pounds– debuted his extreme weight loss at the screening for his film Birdman Or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance at the closing night of the New York Film Festival on Sunday, Oct. 12.

While the 45-year-old has kept pretty mum about his trimmed-down physique, he’s recently been very vocal about how he dislikes being famous. “Being a celebrity is s**t — it’s dumb, and I’m not interested in it,” he said at a press conference for Birdman. “I like to be an actor, and that’s it. The blurred lines are, I think, man-made. I think celebrity is a man-made thing; it’s not innate in us… I’d rather just do my work and go home and watch Lifetime.”

Galifianakis was also a guest on Monday’s The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and again touched on how uncomfortable the red carpet makes him. “Oh, I live on the carpet. I live for the carpet. Salt of the Earth, people there,” he told Fallon sarcastically. “I find the questions are boring [on the red carpet] and I try to liven it up a bit.”

He recalled, “There was this woman on the red carpet and she said, ‘Oh! It looks like you’ve lost some weight.’ I just looked at her and I went, ‘Yeah, I’m dying.'”

Galifianakis said that didn’t stop the woman from taking the interview in another direction. “She goes, ‘Ha, ha. So what are you wearing?'” he said. “They don’t pay attention.”

Another talked-about moment from the funnyman’s appearance on The Tonight Show was his sketch with Fallon called “Excuses,” where Galifianakis and the late-night host try to make plans but are all booked up until 2030.

Galifianakis had not made a public appearance since last October, but he stepped back into the limelight again on Sunday to promote his new flick, “Birdman (Or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance).” On the red carpet, E! News’ Alicia Quarles asked him about his dramatic weight loss.

“No, I’m just . I’m dying,” he deadpanned.

“But you look good. That suits you very well,” she responded, pointing to his suit.

“Thank you, it’s a ladies’ [size] 50,” he said.

Galifianakis sat down with Jimmy Fallon Monday and shared his true feelings about red carpet questions with “The Tonight Show” host.

“I live for the carpet. Salt-of-the-earth people there,” he joked. “There’s excitement and you kind of have to feign this excitement. And then you have to answer questions that, I find, the questions are boring. So I try to liven it up a bit.”

It appears that Zach Galifianakis is no longer a funny fat man. Did he suddenly lose his personality? Far from it actually – but he recently lost over 50 lbs!
Zach has been missing in action for the last year but finally made a public appearance at a red carpet event on October 12th.
Zach looked slim and trim in his fitted suit at the event – but did not want to discuss the details of his weight loss. He in fact ignored the question altogether as one reporter said to Zach, “wow – you have lost a lot of weight” to which he replied “Ya – I’m dying.” LOL – looks like Zach has not lost his personality, just a whole lot of weight.
With the help from a trainer and nutritionist he rapidly shed 50 lbs of fat in about 6 months. We were able to discuss with the weight loss helpers what Zach did to lose weight so quick and they revealed his nutrition and workout program.
One of the biggest changes to Zach’s lifestyle was cutting out sweets. With the help of his nutritionist he was able to cut out a lot of his favorite sweets such as chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream.
Zach’s nutritionist explained that if he was able to workout regularly and keep his insulin levels fairly low throughout the day he would be able to shed body fat quickly. When you consume carbohydrates you spike your insulin levels, which makes it impossible to lose body fat. Low insulin levels will help you lose weight very quickly because it turns your body into fat burning mode instead of fat storage mode.
Besides cutting out a lot of his sweets he also included a lot of clean sources of lean protein. Zach’s nutritionist explained that lean protein is one the best things to increase when you are trying to lose weight. The extra lean protein will help you build lean muscle mass and increases your metabolism. This is the winning combination when it comes to losing weight quickly.
One more thing that Zach did since he cut out sweets was he included a lot of fresh fruit intake – especially in the morning and after his workouts. Zach’s weight loss team said that if you cut out sweets it is really important to find healthy replacements so you don’t have intense sugar cravings and fall of the wagon!

Zach use to eat a lot of pancakes and bacon for breakfast. His nutritionist said that the combination of simple carbohydrates and saturated fat is one of the worst things for your weight loss. It’s this combination that makes it nearly impossible to lose weight regardless of what your workout routine looks like.
Zach started off his day with oatmeal, fresh grilled chicken breast and fruit to satisfy his morning hunger. Galifianakis, who stepped back on the scene to premiere his most recent film, Birdman (Or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance), at the New York Film Festival, isn’t exactly a fan of being a celebrity.

“Being a celebrity is s***ty, it’s dumb, and I’m not interested in it,” he blasted in an interview. “I like to be an actor, and that’s it. The blurred lines are, I think, man-made. I think celebrity is a man-made thing; it’s not innate in us…I’d rather just do my work and go home and watch Lifetime.”

It definitely seems his motivation was something internal, not external, which is a major success indicator when it comes to weight loss. Whatever his reason or method, we’re happy he’s pursuing a healthier version of his very funny self.
